Background
Collecting and analysing information about trauma patients, their management and their injury outcomes informs future improvements to health service provision and development, with the long-term societal aim of reducing preventable deaths and permanent disability as a result of injuries.
Key Objectives & Outcomes
The Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration (AITSC) is laying the foundations for trauma systems in India and improved trauma care in Australia. The AITSC will use the experience of developing a national trauma registry in Australia to establish a national trauma registry in India by building on existing data systems in four Indian trauma hospitals, agreeing on a standard minimum data set to suit Indian sites and implementing standard protocols for data collection and management. By the end of program funding a fully operational and linked trauma registry will exist at the four participating sites and will lay the foundation for the implementation of a national trauma registry in India.
